Here’s a violent little Mister Mystery tale… it’s more on the “crime” side of horror, but still worthy of inclusion here since it contains some brutal SOTI style axe swings to the head.
I think I saw it coming too when I first read it... but yes, still a decent story that could have probably benefited with another page or two to help build up the suspense a little more, or maybe throw another red herring or two into the mix to throw us off the obvious.

DIDNT SEE THAT END COMING!
THWACK!!
great noir twist! the executioner mask with a skull emblem is a nice weird touch too.
I just love surprises.
Saw it coming, still doesn't make it a bad story though.

For sure........ with a couple more pages of story added this could have been on par with a Crime Suspenstories tale.
He couldn't afford to pay off the debt, but he could afford to buy an airplane on the spur of the moment? Tsk, poor money management, Charlton.
Maybe he bought it on credit.
