The Outcast

Here's a sampling of stuff from the last two issues of Standard Comics short lived Adventures into Darkness series. Lasting only 10 issues total, AiD delivered some real high points in pre-code horror comics history, including quality stories from the likes of Toth, Katz, Moriera, Sekowsky and more... now, whether you think today's post from the June 1954 issue of Advs into Darkness #14 qualifies as a "high point" is completely up to you.

BONUS FILLER
From the March '54 issue of Advs into Darkness #13

Love the colors for these AiD comics~! Making the most of a very limited palette ~!

Why exactly would Satan need money? And as for "When Hell Broke Loose," that must have been a strange part of Asia in the 14th Century where the locals had red hair and western clothes.

LOVE THE TOUGH GUY TALK IN THIS ONE, THEY SURE DON'TWRITE THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE! I AGREE ABOUT THE COLOR TOO, VERY VIBRANT BUT NOT OVERDONE LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER PRECODE PUBLISHERS. GOOD POST, I ALWAYS ENJOY STANDARDS BONUS MATERIAL TOO.

Looks like it could be by Artie Saaf. On checking I noticed it was signed SA on the splash in the grevel...

Took me forever to find it but I see it now Ger, thanks for the art credit!

I thought they were going to throw him in a river with "cement sneakers" or something, where he's suffer for decades alone in a watery grave.

The bonus features are always fun to read. I'm with Tamfos on the Western look of these Asians; the architecture of the town looks a little post 1348 as well.

Thanks for the amazing Monday morning read, Karswell.

I loved the colors too, gave me loads of ideas, but the dialouge was PRICELESS! ...." I waited over an hour for you, at Joe's with all the guy's givin' me the Ha-Ha"
Man I love that line!

Haha, some great comments on this post... you guys are awesome! I have one more visit from Lucifuge for the month (and the year!) and it's coming up next! Devilcember felt like a hit, let me know what you all thought overall and maybe I'll work up more mothly themes in 2010. If you have any other thoughts, suggestions, submissions etc for the coming new year please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Also, some of you have been emailing me about the THOIA tee shirts and for the time being all I can say is that they are SOLD OUT. Maybe this spring I'll unleash them again, or possibly even present a new design. Depends on the demand really, there are times when I can barely keep up with the orders, it's hard to figure... but if there's anyone out there who simply can't live without one please feel free to email me and I can have one made up for you, no problem. Thanks!

First panel: "Frank! Frank! NOOOO!" Inside joke. Sort of.

I like the "Let's Go MAD!" page. It'd take approximately 2.5 million years to arrange those books in all possible ways? And the Moors "hypotic sleep" spot. I'd try it, but I'm working. I doubt the doctors would appreciate my being in such a state during!

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I saw a mile away that he was making a deal with the devil. If he'd had a few more brains he would have paid the piper!

My dad,Art Saaf, did two stories in this series, in # 7 and 10. #7:"Death Drum" amd #10:"Hangman who was Hanged". These can be used for comparison.

I created a website in his honor. On it you will find a short bio, 2 indexes and 2 galleries. Enjoy!
