Trevor Galt was a warlock who extended his life by possessing the bodies of others and pretending to be his own adult descendant. Does that mean that his plan was to pass Dr. Wayne Thorton as his grandson, Trevor Galt III? How? Didn't lots of people already know Dr. Thorton? Why didn't Galt hypnotize the other nurse, Mrs. Allen? Why couldn't he hypnotize Dr. Thorton so he would drink the drug? And who sent the telegram? Kritz the butler? What happened to him? And how did Dr. Thorton figure out that Galt was a witch on such flimsy evidence? It's not like they had birth certificates going back to the Revolutionary War. And if he suspected that Galt was dangerous, why did he allow Mrs. Allen and then Lucille to go to the mansion? For Lucille the ending is identical no matter who wins, since she would have ended up with "Dr. Thorton" and Trevor Galt's money either way. This was a pretty decent idea that needed more work. A little more effort would have made all the difference.
@Mestiere -- your fancy "logic" and "facts" about the story just prove you missed the entire point, it's all about the romance! Why, look at her torn between the Galt and Wayne! Er, actually, wait, no she wasn't. And she was already in love with Wayne. Damn it, I know there's romance in there, somewhere!I like the slightly Ditko-ish moon/light/Galt drawing when Wayne basically expositions us all.Sutton does something really cool on page 3/4 of this set -- he repeats the tree branch motif across a number of panels.
...you missed the entire point, it's all about the romance! You are so right, Brian! I'm clearly not romantic enough. The comic's name is Haunted Love, damn it! And there is so much love! Trevor loved life! Kritz loved serving. Wayne loved being passive-aggressive ("Very well, Lucille... I'll drink the coffee!") And Lucille loved the idea of marrying a doctor. There's love all around! No wonder the title lettering was so groovy!
And Brian missed the point of me posting that KISS ad! Argh, points missed... even for KISS fans, hahaHad a request for a witchy Dell story, that's coming up next-- see ya in a few!
It's a little like the Lovecraft story THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP, where a warlock gets reincarnated as his own daughter.Or a supernatural answer to the mad scientist movie THE ATOMIC BRAIN / MONSTROSITY.
Haha, for sure, Grant! Looking at some of the panels again it seems like Sutton was channeling Jerry Grandanetti in a few places as well.
