HAUNTED HORROR #22 DOUBLE HEADER: Robot Woman / Chef's Delights

HAUNTED HORROR #22 finally lands in stores this week on Wednesday, June 29th, and it's the first of what will likely not be the last of many a spectacular "guest host" issues. And we are goddamned proud to present Mike "The Howler" Howlett's hosting debut spotlighting a terrifying theme that he is of course the bonafide expert on-- the Eerie Publications and the original 50's precode stories that inspired their 60's / 70's reprints / redraws! Hell, he even wrote some book/s about 'em, see HERE and HERE! Read Mike's intro below to get an idea of what this sickening special issue is all about. Then, to get an even more stomach churning idea, read the crazy stories we've chosen to present to you in their entirety! That's right, while some websites give you one FREE story to check out, THOIA gives you TWO! We'll kick things off with Basil Wolverton's incredible classic, "Robot Woman", followed by a rather gruesome delight that will surely leave you all running for your bloody barf bags!

Bon Appetit!

The Morning Ghost

One more tale from DC's supernatural 70's, this time from the October - November 1970 issue of House of Secrets #88. And like our last story, it's a bit predictable in story and climax, but still spooky and fun none the less, and the spectacular art from Dick Dillin on pencils, and Frank Giacoia on inks makes for a really interesting, visually striking chiller. I also recently stumbled onto a cool Virgil Finley illustration that I had never seen before and thought it kind of fit this story, so I tacked it onto the end-- enjoy! More petrifying pre code horrors coming up next!

"Night of the Blood-Feast!"

Something to (blood)tide you over with as I work on a much larger post coming up next-- this is a quick and predictably fun little nazi terror tale with superbly unpredictable artwork by THOIA fave, Frank Robbins. From the March '75 issue of Weird War Tales #35. GRR-R-R-RGH-H-H-H-H...

Vein of Irony

And here we go finally with one more tale from Charlton's The Thing series, the April 1953 issue of The Thing #8 to be exact... it's a vampire story full of bloody irony, and if you think that sounds forced and cheesy then just wait until you read it! Art by Bob Forgione who appears to have illustrated this entire issue, it's fun all the way, but not fun enough for me to want to blog any more Thing stories for awhile-- sorry Thing fans! Check back in the fall maybe.

Whacks' Museum

I still owe you guys some promised stories from Charlton's THE THING series, but now I'm having scanner issues and it will have to be delayed yet again!! Arghhh!! All apologies, folks, they don't call this place THE HORRORS OF IT ALL for nothing! In the meantime, here's a funny old 4-page Bill Everett story I had on hand that I actually donated to another blog years ago, but it never officially found its way back here to THOIA-- until now! Kooky-spooky wax museum shenanigans that originally appeared in the February 1954 issue of Crazy #3, and then apparently slightly updated for the December 1974 issue of Arrgh! #1.
